Assam Congress Protests at Raj Bhavan Over NEET Paper Leaks

Guwahati: Assam Congress leaders marched to the Raj Bhavan in Guwahati on Tuesday. They demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The party stood in solidarity with protesters in New Delhi. Students and leaders there are fuming over alleged examination paper leaks.

Led by Leader of the Opposition Wazed Ali Choudhury, the group arrived at the Kharghuli site around 8 pm. They wanted to deliver a memorandum to Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya. Police blocked the entrance. Officers refused to let the delegation inside. They told the group to hand the papers over to the police instead. The Congress members refused that offer.

Protesters chanted slogans against the BJP-led government. They called for an end to police cases against participants of Monday's Sansad Chalo march. Assam Congress Working President and MLA Jakir Hussain Sikdar slammed the authorities for the massive security presence. "We are a small group of people here who have come to meet the Governor and place our grievances. But an extremely heavy deployment of police has been made," Sikdar said.

Sikdar called the denied access unfortunate. The party staged a brief sit-in before leaving the area. They vowed to keep fighting for the country's youth. The BJP government has stayed silent on the matter.
