Guwahati: Assam police hauled in seven suspects for running a dirty job scheme. The Crime Investigation Department cracked down on an organized ring targeting gullible hopefuls seeking work in the state Water Resources Department. The scammers issued forged appointment letters and used fake government seals to fool their victims.

Job seekers handed over cash. They paid thousands, sometimes even lakhs, to secure positions that did not exist. Investigators filed the case at the CID Police Station under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.

The dragnet tightened on June 27. Officers picked up Gunamoni Baishya in Nalbari district, bringing the total headcount of arrested suspects to seven. "The investigation is continuing to identify other members of the alleged racket and ascertain the full extent of the fraud," officials stated.

Police warned the public to stay sharp. Verify all recruitment notices through official government channels. Do not pay money to anyone promising a government desk job.
