Guwahati: Assam CID detectives netted seven suspects in an organized scheme selling fake government jobs. The crew targeted desperate aspirants with bogus Water Resources Department openings. They handed out forged appointment letters and used fake government seals to make the grift look real.
Victims paid anywhere from thousands to several lakhs of rupees for these nonexistent roles. The operation fell apart after a probe led to multiple arrests. The latest catch happened on June 27 when agents picked up Gunamoni Baishya in the Nalbari district.
Police filed Case No. 04/25 under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. Investigators are still digging for more members of the ring. A spokesperson for the agency stated, "The investigation is continuing to identify other members of the racket and ascertain the full extent of the fraud."
Officials warned the public to ignore anyone demanding cash for jobs. Always verify recruitment notices through official channels instead of paying outsiders.
