Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has requested that Eid committees across the state observe a cow slaughter-free holiday this year. The appeal aims to ensure that local celebrations respect the religious sentiments of the Hindu community while remaining in full compliance with existing state laws.

Sarma highlighted the recent decision by the Dhubri Town Eidgah Committee, which formally asked its community members to refrain from the practice after receiving requests from various organizations. The Chief Minister pointed to this local example as a model for the rest of the state.

By encouraging committees to adopt this approach, the government hopes to foster better communal harmony during the upcoming festivities. Sarma continues to advocate for broad cooperation among religious groups to uphold both the law and social respect as the state prepares for the celebrations.
