Guwahati: A significant investigation into financial irregularities within the Assam Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors Council has been revived. The probe, which centers on corruption linked to nursing recruitment and hostel allotments during the 2013 and 2014 period, was recently transferred to the Chief Minister's Special Vigilance Cell following concerns regarding the slow pace of previous inquiries.
Although allegations of misconduct first surfaced over a decade ago, a formal case, registered as case number 48/25, was only initiated earlier this year. The renewed investigation focuses on actions taken during the tenure of Nibharani Doley, who served as the Joint Director of the Nursing Department at the time. She faces accusations of illegally soliciting payments from nursing candidates, with reports suggesting individuals were charged between 2,000 and 6,000 rupees, while approximately 1.5 lakh rupees was allegedly collected under the guise of admission fees.
Investigators are also examining potential violations of established protocols regarding seat capacities in training centers. Previous findings indicated that the seat count at the Kshetriya Amiya Bharali Nursing School was increased from 30 to 40 in exchange for illicit payments. To ensure a thorough review, the Special Vigilance Cell has secured relevant departmental records and documents. The agency aims to uncover the full extent of the financial irregularities and determine the total amount of misappropriated funds involved in this recruitment scandal.
