Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently praised several Eidgah and graveyard committees for their decision to discourage cow slaughter during the upcoming Eid-ul-Zuha celebrations. The committees in areas including Hojai, Dhubri, Bongaigaon, and Udharbond issued public appeals urging residents to avoid the practice. In their statements, these local groups provided both legal and religious justifications for their request.

Sharing copies of these press releases on social media, the Chief Minister noted that the initiatives demonstrate respect for the sentiments of the state's majority Sanatan community. He described the voluntary measures as a meaningful step toward fostering peaceful coexistence and long-term communal harmony throughout the region.

Sarma expressed his approval of the trend and voiced his hope that other committees across the state might follow suit. He highlighted that such grassroots efforts are vital for building mutual respect and strengthening the bonds between different communities in Assam.
