Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport on June 14 to oversee preparations for a potential visit from Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. Accompanied by government officials and senior ministers, Sarma toured the new integrated terminal to ensure the facility is ready to host high-level international delegations.

The state-of-the-art terminal is designed to handle over 1.3 crore passengers every year. This expansion aims to boost air connectivity and solidify Guwahati as a key aviation hub for Northeast India. During the inspection, airport authorities provided updates on wildlife hazard management, noting strategies such as waste control, canal maintenance, and regular safety checks to minimize bird strikes near the airfield.

Sarma also evaluated the status of regional infrastructure, including the Namrup Ammonia-Urea Complex. This project seeks to stabilize the fertilizer supply for the region and bolster local agriculture. Reports suggest that Prime Minister Takaichi could travel to India in July for discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding trade, security, and economic cooperation.

State officials view the potential visit as a primary opportunity to highlight Assam’s development. An official statement noted the event would serve to showcase the region's "growing infrastructure and strategic importance in India's Act East policy."
