Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on May 31 to explore ways to integrate the state into India's expanding defence manufacturing ecosystem. The discussion focused on aligning Assam with the national Atmanirbhar Bharat programme, which aims to boost domestic defence production through industrial growth and strategic infrastructure investment.

Sarma praised Singh for his leadership and administrative expertise while thanking him for his past support during Assam's assembly elections. The Chief Minister emphasized that his administration is committed to making the state a vital contributor to national security and strategic development goals.

Earlier the same day, Sarma held talks with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to discuss the Act East Policy. Their conversation centered on how Assam can leverage its geographic location to enhance trade and tourism ties with neighboring nations. Through these high-level meetings, Sarma aims to position Assam as a central hub for India's domestic and international policy priorities.
