Guwahati: The Assam Cabinet has officially approved the Assam State Data Policy 2026, marking a significant step toward modernizing the state's digital administration. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the policy establishes a framework for data governance, aiming to improve coordination and decision-making across all government departments.
As part of this initiative, the state will create a nodal agency called the Centre for Data Management. This body will oversee a unified repository designed to support artificial intelligence applications and advanced data analytics. The policy also mandates that state operations comply with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act of 2023 while setting a clear architecture for how information is managed and shared.
During the same meeting, the Cabinet approved the draft address for the Governor ahead of the first session of the 16th Assam Legislative Assembly. This action aligns with the requirements set forth in Article 176 of the Indian Constitution, ensuring the procedural foundation is in place for the newly constituted assembly.
