Guwahati: BJP MLA Taranga Gogoi praised the 16th Assam Legislative Assembly for incorporating tribal languages during the recent oath-taking ceremony. Legislators from the Rabha and Karbi communities chose to take their oaths in their mother tongues, a move Gogoi described as a significant step for cultural representation in the state.

Gogoi, who is serving his second term as the representative for Naharkatia, said this shift reflects a broader effort to provide space for traditional languages within government institutions. He believes these structural changes will strengthen the cultural integrity of Assam and send a positive message to tribal groups across the region.

The inaugural session also addressed the transition into the new legislative term following the state elections. Lawmakers successfully elected a new Speaker for the House during the sitting. Looking ahead, officials expect the introduction of a Uniform Civil Code Bill during the current session.
