Guwahati: Assam Chief Secretary Ravi Kota sat down with British Deputy High Commissioner Andrew Fleming to prepare for the India-UK Free Trade Agreement. The deal takes effect July 15, 2026. Both sides want to squeeze every drop of value from the pact.

They looked at ways to boost exports and improve infrastructure across the state. A major focus was the new report on Battery Energy Storage Systems for the Assam Power Distribution Company. It aims to fix the grid and push renewable energy. Officials also plan to host an infrastructure roundtable in Guwahati to talk about flood resilience and transport.

Digital growth is on the table too. The UK-India Sovereign AI Partnership could bring advanced computing and better cloud systems to Assam. Andrew Fleming said the talks were productive. He noted, "The vast potential for cooperation across infrastructure, agriculture technology, artificial intelligence, skilling, MSMEs, sports, climate action and energy."

The two parties plan to turn these talks into real results. They aim to lock in long-term investment for the state.
