Asom Gana Parishad office in Dhubri sealed amid factional dispute

Guwahati: Internal friction within the Asom Gana Parishad erupted in Dhubri this week after a breakaway faction locked and sealed the party district headquarters. The official committee, which holds a mandate until 2027, labeled the move an unlawful interference that has halted standard organisational activities.

Dilip Sarkar, President of the AGP Dhubri Bidhan Parishad, attributed the disruption to a parallel committee formed by Harun Islam, the former Vice President of the local unit. Sarkar stated that this new group lacks any formal recognition from party leadership. The dispute escalated on Sunday when Islam's faction announced that members of the recognized committee would be barred from the premises before securing the doors with a lock and chain.

The standoff gained visibility on Monday morning when the AGP Dhubri Zilla Youth Wing attempted to host a scheduled meeting at the office. Workers found the building inaccessible and claimed the rival faction had seized control of the keys. Sanjay Biswas, the youth wing president, publicly condemned the actions as a major breach of party discipline.

Addressing the situation, Biswas called for the party's top brass to resolve the crisis. "We urge State AGP President Atul Bora to initiate a high-level inquiry into the unauthorised lockout and take necessary action against those responsible," Biswas said. Local members are currently waiting for instructions from the central leadership in Guwahati to restore order. Representatives from the rival faction could not be reached for comment.
