Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein honored the Arunachal Pradesh State Transport Services (APSTS) for its five decades of service during a Golden Jubilee celebration in Khonsa. Speaking at the Tirap district event on April 29, Mein noted that the department has evolved from a small fleet of two buses in 1975 into a vital institution that bridges the gap between the state's most isolated regions.
Reflecting on the service's growth, Mein credited the department with driving socio-economic progress across the frontier state. He acknowledged the early support of traditional chiefs and commended the dedication of both past and present employees who built the network under challenging conditions. The event served as a tribute to the pioneers, drivers, mechanics, and conductors who established the foundation for modern public transit in the region.
The department is currently prioritizing modernization through the adoption of new technologies. Current infrastructure includes GPS tracking, CCTV security, panic buttons, and a transition toward air-conditioned and electric buses. Transport Minister Ojing Tasing emphasized that these advancements reflect a broader commitment to passenger safety and the continued strengthening of transportation infrastructure throughout the state.
To commemorate the milestone, officials introduced several new initiatives aimed at improving the travel experience. Mein officially flagged off a unique restaurant bus, a specialized road safety awareness vehicle, and a fleet of luxury coaches. These additions are intended to promote safety and enhance convenience for passengers across Arunachal Pradesh as the organization looks toward the future.
