Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh officials launched a high-level committee to overhaul the state's 80:20 job reservation system. The panel will weigh making Permanent Resident Certificates and tribal status mandatory for all government hires. This action follows a June 2 memorandum from the All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union.
Industries Minister Nyato Dukam leads the new group. It includes secretaries from Home, Law, Personnel, and Tribal Affairs departments. The union president gets a seat as a special invitee. The panel must study legal frameworks and compare practices across Assam, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Manipur within two months.
AAPSU President Meje Taku cheered the decision. "The committee's formation was the result of the union's sustained campaign on the issue," Taku said. He views this as a vital first move in a longer fight for reform.
The government promised to prioritize other outstanding union demands. The list covers the Chakma-Hajong status, border talks with Assam, and potential changes to Article 371(H). Officials will also look into new research fellowships and more test centers for CUET exams.
