Itanagar: Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Ajay Tamta inaugurated three new Arunachal Pradesh State Transport Services (APSTS) buses in Khonsa. The launch coincides with the golden jubilee celebrations of the transport organization, which began operations in the region with just one vehicle in 1975.
Tamta praised the department for its five decades of work in connecting isolated communities and fostering socio-economic growth. He emphasized that reliable transport infrastructure is essential for progress, noting that major initiatives like National Highway 13 are set to enhance tourism and local livelihoods. The minister reiterated the Central Government’s commitment to funding road development projects across the state through the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund.
State Transport Minister Ojing Tasing announced plans for a modern bus terminal in Khonsa, serving as a landmark gift to commemorate the anniversary. This project addresses a proposal from local MLA Wanglin Lowangdong, who advocated for replacing the aging bus station and expanding service options. Tasing explained that the government is tailoring transport policies to suit the unique needs of hilly states, with various infrastructure projects currently in progress to support the existing network of 18 transport stations.
Arunachal East MP Tapir Gao attended the event and advocated for professional development within the sector. He requested consistent training for drivers, conductors, and mechanics to improve passenger safety and service quality as the region's transport network continues to grow.
