Itanagar: Agriculture Minister Gabriel D Wangsu inaugurated the two-day Arunachal Jaiv Vividhata & Beej Utsav 2026 in Yazali on May 28. The event, held in the Keyi Panyor district, focuses on strengthening indigenous seed systems, building climate resilience, and preserving traditional ecological knowledge to support sustainable livelihoods.
Organized through a partnership between the office of Yachuli MLA Toko Tatung, KVK Keyi Panyor, ArSRLM, and the M. S. Swaminathan Research Foundation, the festival attracted a diverse group of participants including scientists, researchers, and local farmers. Notable attendees included MLA Toko Tatung, MSSRF Chairperson Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, and Padma Bhushan awardee Rajeev Sethi.
A featured exhibition highlighted agrobiodiversity and sustainable farming models. Members of the Nyishi and Apatani communities showcased a variety of indigenous crops, such as local paddy landraces, millets, pulses, and tubers. These displays emphasized the importance of heirloom seeds in maintaining regional biodiversity.
The stakeholder consultation aims to bridge the gap between traditional farming wisdom and modern scientific research. By integrating these approaches, organizers hope to develop robust, climate-resilient agricultural models that protect the rich natural heritage of Arunachal Pradesh.
