Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu laid the foundation stone for a new State Emergency Operation Centre and State Disaster Management Authority office complex on Friday. Located at the Civil Secretariat in Itanagar, the project aims to modernize the state's disaster preparedness and emergency response capabilities.
Khandu attended the ceremony alongside legislators Techi Kaso, Nakap Nalo, and Rode Bui, as well as several senior officials. The new facility will function as a central command hub, housing advanced communication networks, specialized control rooms, and modern conference spaces.
By consolidating these resources under one roof, officials expect to streamline information sharing and improve inter-agency coordination during natural calamities. The centre is designed to provide real-time monitoring and support faster decision-making for emergencies across the state.
In addition to the infrastructure project, the chief minister announced the formation of four high-powered committees. These groups will focus on critical administrative tasks, including the verification of APST certificates, the status of non-APST offspring, the regulation of the Inner Line Permit system, and the prevention of illegal infiltration.
