Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh Police teamed up with the Primary Health Centre in Khimyung to host a free eye screening camp on Saturday. Located near the Indo-Myanmar border, the initiative served approximately 100 residents who often struggle to reach specialized medical facilities due to rugged terrain and limited infrastructure.
Ophthalmic experts from the Dibrugarh-based NGO Bright Vision NE conducted the examinations and provided consultations. Patients received free medication, while those needing vision correction were given glasses donated by Hamjong Tangha, the local MLA for the 52-Changlang Legislative Assembly Constituency.
The event relied on logistical support from the local police and health staff to operate smoothly. Local community members expressed their appreciation for the program, with many residents noting that "the initiative holds particular importance as specialized eye care services remain limited in several remote parts of Arunachal Pradesh."
Following the successful event, participants urged local authorities to organize similar health camps on a regular basis. Key organizers included Changlang SP Kirli Padu and Khimyung Police Station officer Awash Mehta, whose efforts were widely praised by the local population for bringing essential care to the underserved region.
