Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Law Minister Kento Jini wants the federal government to hand the Akajan-Likabali-Bame road project back to the Border Roads Organisation. He sent a letter to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Thursday asking for the switch. He believes the agency has the right expertise to handle the rough border terrain.

Rain-triggered landslides and flash floods currently block the Likabali-Basar-Bame-Aalo stretch. This route acts as a vital lifeline for seven border districts, including West Siang and Upper Subansiri. A massive landslide at the Siji block point left thousands of commuters stranded and cut off travel entirely.

The BRO originally managed the road before the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited took over in 2014-15. Jini argues the switch back is necessary to ensure quality and speed. He stated, "the organisation was better equipped to execute the project efficiently within the stipulated timeframe, particularly given its strategic importance and the difficult terrain."

Jini represents the Aalo East constituency and insists the transfer is the only way to fix the constant connectivity issues. He maintains that the project needs the specific experience the BRO brings to the field to keep the remote districts open to the rest of the country.
