Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein wants a new growth model. He spoke Monday at Van Mahotsav in Itanagar. He urged the state to mix economic gains with environmental health. Indigenous customs must stay alive. True progress balances modern life with traditional values.

Mein wants more than just planting trees. He slammed the high death rate of saplings put along roads and in public spaces. He told schools and government offices to look after what they plant. Survival matters more than total numbers.

Arunachal sits inside one of the world's 12 major biodiversity hotspots. The region holds everything from alpine peaks to thick, tropical jungles. Researchers keep finding new fish, bugs, and plants there. Mein wants more studies on these rare species. He told students to help document the local environment.

Illegal hunting remains a big problem. He called for more birdwatching and trekking to create jobs that protect wildlife instead of killing it. "Development must always be planned with environmental sustainability at its core," he said. He added that saving forests keeps rivers clean and supports people living in rural areas.

The Botanical Survey of India hosted the event. During the ceremony, scientists named a newly discovered plant after Mein to thank him for his conservation work. He accepted the honor on behalf of all the people of Arunachal Pradesh.
