Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein honored high-achieving students during a ceremony held at the Multipurpose Cultural Hall in Namsai on May 31. The event, organized by the All Tai Ahom Students Union, celebrated the academic success of Class X and XII students while focusing on the future of the community.
During his address, Mein announced that five students from the Tai Ahom community will receive full sponsorship for UPSC coaching at the Namsai center operated by the Tai Khamti Students Union. He encouraged the youth to capitalize on the state's modern educational infrastructure, noting that access to learning has grown significantly since his own time as a student when options for higher education were sparse.
The Deputy Chief Minister also stressed the importance of preserving the distinct linguistic and cultural heritage of the six Tai communities in Northeast India. He expressed concern regarding the loss of traditional practices and urged members of the Tai Ahom, Tai Khamti, Tai Phake, Tai Aiton, Tai Khamyang, and Tai Turung groups to remain unified while maintaining their ancestral identities.
Namsai MLA and advisor Chau Zingnu Namchoom also attended the event. He reminded the students that academic grades serve as only one part of success and advised them to prioritize discipline and a commitment to lifelong learning to navigate the challenges of the modern era.
