Itanagar: Sorita Shrestha, an athlete from Arunachal Pradesh, earned a gold medal in the K1-48 kg category at the WAKO India National Junior Kickboxing Championship. The event took place in Odisha from May 30 to June 3 and was organized by the Amateur Kickboxing Association of Odisha with recognition from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
A resident of Kharsang in the Changlang district, Shrestha trained for over two years at the Extreme Martial Arts and Fitness Centre. She prepared for the national competition under the mentorship of coaches Sarat Sonowal and Samnong Hakhun. State officials, including Kickboxing Association of Arunachal secretary Charu Govind and technical director Gopal Moran, also supported her path to the title.
The victory marks another success for the state in national combat sports. Reflecting on her development and the local impact of the sport, the community has celebrated her performance. Her achievement at the event comes after she competed against top junior kickboxers from across the country. Following her win, the local sporting community offered praise for her efforts, noting that "Her victory adds to Arunachal Pradesh’s achievements in kickboxing at the national level."
