Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh officials launched an emergency air operation to reach villages trapped by flash floods. Heavy rain triggered massive landslides and washed out bridges. Dozens of remote settlements in Lower Siang, including Rotte and Korang, have no road access. Residents are cut off.
The state government sent a Skyone Airways Mi-172 helicopter to handle the job. The aircraft will fly food and medicine from the Pasighat Advanced Landing Ground to a helipad in Koyu. The Directorate of Civil Aviation confirmed the bird left Naharlagun Saturday morning. It aims to make multiple sorties to stock the area.
Teams from civil aviation, disaster management, and food safety departments are on high alert. They are waiting at ground sites in Pasighat, Likabali, and Nari. The goal is to move the supplies out to the people fast.
Crews are fighting to clear debris on the Akajan-Likabali-Bame road. This route serves as a lifeline for seven border districts. Likabali Additional Deputy Commissioner Mokar Riba said, "A massive landslide near Brahmaputra View at Garu has necessitated immediate clearance operations."
The administration tightened traffic rules on that road to keep the crews safe. Authorities promised legal action against anyone who ignores the new travel schedule. The state remains focused on opening the vital supply line.
