Imphal: Armed attackers struck Thingkhongjang Kuki Village in Manipur's Kangpokpi district on July 5. The assault began around 5 pm as residents gathered for prayers at the local church. Gunmen fired high-grade weapons and tossed explosives into the village, igniting several homes before vanishing. Chaos erupted instantly.

Assam Rifles personnel rushed a woman with a gunshot wound and a wounded child to a nearby camp for medical care. Villagers claimed attackers belonged to NSCN-IM and ZUF-K, though these reports remain unverified. Kuki-Zo residents attempting to reach the site reported being blocked by CRPF soldiers, which sparked a brief clash.

Community leaders blasted the security response. The Kuki Inpi Manipur condemned the failure of nearby forces to stop the assault. They questioned how militants could operate so freely near a CRPF camp. The group issued a firm statement regarding the failure of authorities to protect the area.

"It is beyond comprehension that heavily armed militants could infiltrate the area, unleash violence upon civilians, torch homes, injure women and children, and withdraw without decisive intervention," the organization said. They are now demanding a full judicial inquiry. The group insists on immediate accountability and better security for hill villages.
