Imphal: The Arambai Tenggol has formally called on the Government of India to maintain justice and transparency throughout the peace process in Manipur. The group cautioned that any actions perceived as inconsistent with previous government assurances could severely damage efforts to restore normalcy and reconciliation in the region.
Robin Mangang, the group's public relations officer, explained that many youths felt forced to defend their families and villages after law and order collapsed during the recent ethnic conflict. These individuals often sacrificed their education and career prospects to protect their local communities. According to the organization, members of the Meitei community and various village volunteers chose to surrender their arms in good faith following government appeals and promises of protection.
The group raised concerns regarding the recent apprehension of several Meitei individuals, noting that some of those facing legal action are the same people who previously participated in the arms surrender process. Arambai Tenggol argued that this perceived lack of consistency undermines public confidence and risks discouraging future cooperation. The statement claimed that a disproportionate number of Meitei individuals have faced arrest compared to members of the Kuki-Zo community.
"The organisation alleged that those who had supported and participated in the arms surrender process were now facing legal action," the statement said. The group concluded by urging authorities to provide inclusive, fair treatment that allows youths who have returned to normal life to rebuild their futures without fear of selective or punitive measures.
