ANSAM Accuses Security Forces of Brutality Against Naga Protesters

Imphal: The All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur, accused the CRPF and Kangpokpi Police of using excessive force against unarmed women. The standoff took place June 28 at Thonglang along the Imphal-Tamenglong Road. Protesters were demanding justice for six Naga men who were abducted, killed, and dismembered.

ANSAM claims security personnel, led by Sub-Divisional Police Officer Lalboi Lunkim, opened fire on the crowd. They also allege crews used heavy machinery to tear down a traditional village gate. The group later found spent bullets at the site. They called the incident a grave violation of rights.

The association stated: "The association further alleged that heavy machinery was used to demolish a traditional Naga village gate during the operation."

Public anger is rising. The United Naga Council continues an economic blockade across Naga-inhabited areas until the government delivers results. ANSAM demands a time-bound investigation into the killings and prosecutions for those responsible. They also want an official promise that peaceful protests will not be met with violence. The student group warned that the movement will not stop until they see accountability.
