Guwahati: AICC general secretary K.C. Venugopal lands in Assam on June 30. He heads to the Rajiv Bhawan in Guwahati to dissect why the party collapsed in the recent Assembly elections. The party wants answers. Venugopal will lead an organisational meeting on July 1 to figure out what went wrong and how to fix the internal rot.

The guest list includes every Congress MP, MLA, and district head. Candidates who ran in the last election must also show up. They need to hand over their feedback on each constituency. Following the crushing defeat, state president Gaurav Gogoi sent out teams to scout the ground. Those field reports sit untouched. One insider noted, "The reports highlighted organisational shortcomings and analysed factors that helped the BJP-led alliance secure a decisive victory."

Congress managed only 19 seats in the 126-member house. The BJP-led NDA walked away with 102. With the BJP grabbing its first single-party majority in the state, the local leadership is desperate for a win. Venugopal aims to boost worker morale and draft a comeback plan before the party falls further apart.
