Agartala: Tension grips Jogendranagar. Residents of Abhijit Palli are fighting to save a plot used for Durga Puja for over 25 years. Nearly 200 families staged a protest after a private party claimed the land to put it up for sale. The locals want the administration to step in and stop the land grab. They cite the Chief Minister's repeated warnings against illegal dealings.
Protesters point to a powerful land mafia network. They claim this group forges ownership documents and fabricates powers of attorney to push illegal sales in Jogendranagar, Anandanagar, Renters Colony, Kazi Nazrul Islam Colony, and Janata Colony. Locals specifically named Jiban Dey and Sujit Dey as the key brokers behind the scheme. Residents allege that the racket benefits from help provided by "certain lawyers and government employees in local tehsil offices."
The community claims the syndicate thrives because no one has launched an effective crackdown. They fear the group operates with support from influential individuals. To defend their ground, residents filed formal complaints with the local administration, elected representatives, the Ward No. 29 office, and Booth No. 45. They demand a full inquiry and a freeze on any land transfers. The administration has yet to respond to the mounting unrest in Agartala.
