ABSU Demands Assam Government Address Bodo Textbook Shortage

Guwahati: The All Bodo Students Union has formally asked Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to intervene in a critical textbook shortage affecting Bodo medium schools. A delegation led by union president Khwrwmdao Owary submitted the request to the state government via the Kokrajhar District Commissioner this past Thursday.

Students across 12 districts are struggling with their studies because essential textbooks have not arrived more than a month into the new academic year. Although Bodo medium education received official recognition in 1963, this administrative delay is currently hindering classroom progress.

This latest plea follows an earlier attempt to resolve the issue on May 11, when the student group contacted the Assam State Textbook Production and Publication Corporation. Despite requests for the books to be distributed by May 18, the materials have yet to reach the schools. The union is now pushing for urgent government action to secure the necessary supplies and restore normal academic operations for these students.
