Guwahati: A two-kilometer stretch of Jail Road in Assam has fallen into ruin. Potholes swallow the pavement. Rain turns the route into a muddy trap for thousands of commuters traveling between Borigaon-Dharmapur Road and Rajbari.
The Public Works Department road serves as a vital artery for Abhayapuri town during heavy traffic. Despite its importance, the surface has rotted away over three years. Locals say the mess makes travel dangerous for students and ambulances alike.
Residents claim officials have ignored the problem for too long. They now demand the government start reconstruction before someone gets hurt. As one resident put it, "The road has remained in a dilapidated state for the past three years."
Authorities have yet to act. The stagnant water and uneven dirt keep residents stranded. The people of Abhayapuri want their road back.
