Kohima: The Zunheboto Town Council launched a community awareness campaign this week to address the urgent challenges of climate change and environmental degradation. The initiative, themed A Global Call for Climate Action, involves collaboration with ward representatives and local leaders to promote sustainable habits across the town.
Activities began on June 7 and will run through June 12, with the council visiting various colonies to educate residents on waste management and environmental protection. During a session at Alahuto Colony on June 11, ZTC Chairperson Herato Sukhalu urged citizens to take personal responsibility for their surroundings.
Speaking on the need for local engagement, Sukhalu stated, "We should adopt eco-friendly practices, reduce waste generation, maintain cleanliness in the surroundings, and contribute towards sustainable development."
Organizers emphasized that local action is vital for preserving natural resources for future generations. The campaign aims to foster a cleaner environment by encouraging collective participation in conservation efforts before the program concludes on June 12.
