Kohima: Nagaland Additional Director General of Police Renchamo P Kikon addressed the Police Commemoration Day parade on October 21. He demanded that his officers prioritize integrity and professionalism while protecting the public. The police uniform must stand as a symbol of safety and sacrifice. Kikon noted that 154 police personnel died across India in the 12 months ending August 31.

He expressed deep solidarity with the families of the fallen. Society enjoys peace because officers gave their lives to maintain order. During the ceremony, AIGP Shouka Kekhato read the official roll of honour for those killed in the line of duty. A bugle call followed at the cenotaph, where Kikon and other officers laid wreaths. "The truest way to honour our fallen colleagues is to uphold the ideals for which they sacrificed everything," Kikon stated.

The event marks a deadly 1959 encounter at Hot Springs, Ladakh. Ten officers died after a search party led by Deputy Central Intelligence Officer Karam Singh fell into an ambush by Chinese troops. Modern officers are now keeping that legacy alive through national events. A nine-member Nagaland police team started a 2,845-km motorcycle expedition on October 7. They have reached Jabalpur and will finish at the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas parade in Gujarat on October 31. Nagaland personnel are also stationed at the National Police Memorial in New Delhi to pay their respects.
