Shillong: Eminent author and former NABARD Deputy General Manager Mayur Bora has joined the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya. He serves as the Author-in-Residence and Director of the Centre for Competitive Examinations. Bora steps into these roles after retiring from his banking career in 2021.
He plans to sharpen student writing skills. Artificial intelligence challenges original thought today. Bora believes in using technology to complement human ability rather than replace it. He wants to bring nuance back to intellectual discourse. His mentorship will push critical thinking and the exchange of ideas.
Bora brings 25 years of professional experience to the campus. He previously taught at the Indian Institute of Bank Management in Guwahati and served as a visiting professor at Gauhati University. He has authored 18 books. Sixteen are in Assamese and two in English. He also spent time on interview boards for the APSC CCE and IBPS bank exams.
Students will get training in public speaking and interview readiness. He wants to build confidence in young people. As director, he will guide the Centre for Competitive Examinations toward better performance in public service preparation. His background includes lectures delivered in the USA and UK. On July 20, 2024, the Consul General of India in Atlanta recognized his work. He earned praise for his writing on societal harmony. At the Atlanta event, he spoke on the topic of Hindu-Muslim unity. Bora noted, "Instead of searching for every answer of life in black and white, he would try to restore and reclaim the importance of nuance in the intellectual discourse."
