Kohima: A five-day training program focused on advanced floriculture production technologies began on May 18 at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) office in Wokha. Held under the Tribal Sub-Plan project, the initiative aims to bolster tribal farming systems by providing essential technological support and necessary agricultural inputs.
During the inaugural session, DPRO Wokha, Lolano Patton, emphasized that floriculture presents significant opportunities for youth entrepreneurship and self-employment. She urged participants to remain disciplined and dedicated, highlighting that the flower industry extends well beyond aesthetics into medicinal applications, fragrance manufacturing, and various commercial ventures. Patton also advocated for the establishment of a local Flower Growers Association and underscored the necessity of utilizing digital marketing tools to reach broader consumer bases.
Dr. Sandeep Deshmukh, senior scientist and head of ICAR-KVK Wokha, noted in his keynote address that integrating new technology with targeted input assistance is vital for the long-term success of local floriculture. He encouraged attendees to use this opportunity to build sustainable livelihoods.
The program, described by Dr. Mhalo Tungoe, includes a comprehensive curriculum featuring skill development, awareness regarding government assistance schemes, and practical value-addition techniques. Trainees will also participate in interactive discussions and field visits designed to translate theoretical knowledge into practical expertise for their future business endeavors.
