Kohima: Libemo Memorial School in Wokha marked a major milestone on May 22 by launching the district's first School Integrated Programme. The initiative aims to revitalize science education and provide students with better preparation for competitive examinations.
School principal Surojit Mitra welcomed the attendees and reaffirmed the institution's commitment to high-quality science instruction. The event also celebrated the formal restart of the school's science stream, which will now feature instruction from IIT alumni in physics, chemistry, mathematics, and biology.
Keynote speaker Ajay Sethi of NITI Academy highlighted a significant gap in regional learning, noting that STEM education in Nagaland currently sits at 14 percent compared to the national average of 40 percent. He encouraged students to pursue careers in medicine and engineering by maintaining consistency and discipline in their studies.
Special guest Chandrakant Bharti, principal of Government Higher Secondary School, joined other stakeholders to emphasize the shared responsibility of educators in preparing the next generation. As part of the kickoff, school director Merilo Kikon distributed essential science and mathematics textbooks along with practice papers to the students.
With only 20 students enrolled in Class XI science streams across the entire Wokha district this year, organizers hope this program will build a stronger academic foundation and provide more affordable opportunities for local students.
