Wokha Declares Paid Holiday for Ward 8 Polling Day

Kohima: Wokha Deputy Commissioner K Mhathung Tsanglao has declared June 16, 2026, a paid holiday for all employees registered to vote in Ward No. 8, also known as Tsumang B. This measure follows a directive from the Nagaland Home Department and is designed to allow citizens to exercise their democratic right to vote.

The mandate covers all registered electors who work or reside outside the ward. Additionally, banks and financial institutions across Nagaland must grant a paid holiday to any of their staff members who are registered voters in Ward 8, as provided under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881. Shops and commercial establishments owned or run by these electors are also required to close during polling hours.

The official notification notes that "the provisions will not apply to electors whose absence from duty may cause danger or substantial loss in respect of the employment in which they are engaged." If a repoll is required, that day will also be observed as a public holiday for the affected voters.
