Guwahati: A herd of wild elephants tore through Singia Kumar Gaon in Samaguri, Assam, smashing residential walls and wrecking paddy storage sheds. The animals struck at night while families slept. Rupak Saikia was among those who lost property in the rampage. One family narrowly escaped the attack as the herd destroyed household belongings.
Locals are terrified. Many residents now refuse to leave their homes after dark. The repeat incursions have residents across greater Samaguri calling for help. They claim the Forest Department has failed to move the elephants away from populated zones. "The repeated movement of wild elephants through the area has raised concerns among residents," said locals who are losing sleep over the threat.
Villagers are demanding immediate action to stop the destruction. They want the government to use advanced tracking technology to push the herd back into the hills and forests. Families remain on high alert as they look for permanent solutions to end the cycle of human-elephant conflict in their villages.
