Agartala: West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar wants local government staff to handle their own census paperwork this year. He is pushing officials to use the new self-enumeration feature during the 2027 Census operations. It marks a shift in how the state collects population data. The first phase of the operation covers a houselisting survey.

This survey runs from August 1 to August 31. The government will open the online self-enumeration portal to the public on July 17. Users can access the site until July 31. The portal lets people fill out a 34-column questionnaire themselves. Dr. Kumar said, "The self-enumeration portal will be available for public use from July 17."

The move aims to lighten the workload for field enumerators. Officials will still visit homes after the digital window closes. They will check the data already entered into the system. This verified information becomes the final record. Without this, enumerators must input every detail from scratch. Dr. Kumar also asked the public to provide honest feedback so the administration can fix issues quickly.
