Shillong: VPP president Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit is pushing back against the potential alliance between UDP legislators and the BJP. Eight UDP MLAs reportedly eye a move to the BJP if the party meets their demands. These demands include coal mining rights and the inclusion of the Khasi language in the Eighth Schedule. Basaiawmoit wants more. He demands voters look at the long-term price of these political deals.
"Do not look only at what the BJP is ready to give. We have to ask what the BJP wants from Meghalaya," Basaiawmoit said on Sunday. He warned that this is not just about local demands. It is about the BJP's national agenda.
He pointed to the state's uranium reserves. The Centre plans to hit 100 GW of nuclear power capacity by 2047. The SHANTI Act expands private and state participation in the nuclear sector. Basaiawmoit believes Meghalaya’s natural resources are a key target for the BJP-led NDA government. He questioned the party's true motives for wanting to govern the state. He linked the BJP to the RSS and its stated goal of building a Hindu nation. He described the RSS as a disciplined outfit ready to sacrifice for its ideology.
The VPP leader dismissed his critics. He insists his comments are grounded in research and facts. He remains firm on his analysis of the Christian-majority state. The ultimate power lies with the voters. "The people are the judges," he said. Basaiawmoit pledged to keep challenging these developments to ensure citizens understand the stakes.
