Guwahati: Veteran Assamese actress Chetana Das has been selected for the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, one of India's most prestigious honors in the performing arts. The award recognizes her distinguished career and significant contributions to the field of theatre and acting.

Das has maintained a prominent presence in Assamese cinema and stage for decades. She is especially celebrated for her comic roles and remains one of the industry's most recognized performers. Born in Shillong, Meghalaya, she graduated from Darrang College in Tezpur, Assam. Her acting path started early with the play Sunit Konwori, written by Jyoti Prasad Agarwala. That performance earned her the Best Actress award from Tezpur Multipurpose Girls School, marking the start of a prolific career.

The Sangeet Natak Akademi, India's national academy for music, dance, and drama, confers this honor to celebrate excellence and lifetime achievements in traditional performing arts. The academy stated that the award "recognises her outstanding contribution to theatre and her distinguished career spanning several decades."
