Veteran Actress Malaya Goswami Wins 2026 Bhaben Baruah Award

Guwahati: The Nalbari District Committee of the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva-Chatra Parishad has selected veteran actress Malaya Goswami for the Bhaben Baruah Award 2026. She earned the prize for her decades of work in Assamese cinema and theatre. The group established the award in 2009 to honor the legacy of theatre personality Bhaben Baruah.

Goswami collects Rs 15,000 in cash. She also receives a memento, citation, xorai, gamosa, and cheleng. It is a prestigious honor. The award recognizes those who contribute to the arts, literature, and culture of Assam.

The presentation ceremony takes place on September 3. It happens at the Nalbari Natya Mandir during the second day of the Bhaben Baruah All Assam Children's Drama Competition. Organizers hold this annual event to nurture young talent and support the state's performing arts. As the committee notes, the award marks a "contribution to Assam's art, cinema and cultural heritage."
