Village Rockstars 2 hits six cities this September

Guwahati: Director Rima Das is taking her film Village Rockstars 2 to the masses. The movie hits theaters in Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Pune on September 25. The makers confirmed the release date on September 15. The expansion follows an initial run in Assam and a showcase at MAMI Independent.

This sequel stands alone as a coming-of-age drama. It hits hard on themes like adolescence, climate change, and the bond between mother and daughter. The story centers on a teenage girl living in rural Assam. She juggles deep friendships, big dreams, and her love for music amidst a changing natural world.

Das has spent a decade on this emotional project. "Some have watched the film at the film festivals. I am happy to take the film to a larger audience," she said. The director noted that viewers often find their own personal meaning in her work. The timing feels urgent. The film highlights environmental shifts just as Assam and Nepal recover from heavy floods.

The movie already has a global reputation. It premiered at the Busan International Film Festival and earned the Kim Jiseok Award. It also played at the Berlin International Film Festival. Goenka Enterprises will handle distribution. Meanwhile, Das looks ahead. Her next project, Not a Hero, debuts at the Busan International Film Festival next month.
