USSC Backs Demands for Delayed NH-29 Highway Completion

Kohima: The United Sangtam Students' Conference (USSC) has officially thrown its support behind the Chakhesang Students' Union in their ongoing campaign for the timely completion of the NH-29 Two-Lane project. The organization expressed deep frustration regarding the stalled progress of the Kohima to Jessami road, citing repeated failures by both the authorities and the EPC contractor, M/s Ratna Infra Project Private Limited, to meet their commitments.

The USSC highlighted that the highway serves as a vital lifeline for the Kiphire district and surrounding areas, acting as a critical route for essential services like healthcare, education, and trade. The student body noted that the poor road conditions have created significant safety hazards and financial burdens for local commuters and transport operators.

The conference specifically criticized the lack of urgency shown by the implementing agencies, warning that the arrival of the monsoon season has only worsened the situation. The USSC stated, "The delay has caused considerable hardship to the public and continues to hamper the developmental aspirations of the people."

Urging the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited to take immediate corrective action, the group emphasized that failing to finish infrastructure projects destroys public trust. The USSC is calling for greater accountability and visible progress to ensure the region's socio-economic development is no longer held back by administrative delays.
