Shillong: The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya has established a new landmark by installing a 150-foot-tall National Flag at its Knowledge Park campus. This project makes the university the first institution in India's hill regions to host a flag of this height. The monument was donated by the Mumbai-based DK Flag Foundation.
A team from the DK Flag Foundation, led by Dr. Rakesh Bakshi, performed the ceremonial hoisting alongside USTM National Cadet Corps cadets. Known as the Flag Man of India, Dr. Bakshi explained that the university was chosen because it embodies key national principles. "I chose the USTM for the installation of this monumental National Tricolour because USTM truly reflects the values of integrity, discipline, inclusiveness and nation-building," he stated.
The event drew several notable attendees, including USTM Vice-Chancellor Prof. G.D. Sharma, Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque, Deputy Inspector General of the CRPF Anil Bisht, and Ri-Bhoi Additional Superintendent of Police Orville Massar. The celebration featured patriotic performances by the Meghalaya Police Band and the SFS School Girls Band from Narengi. The ceremony concluded with the singing of the National Anthem, highlighting the university's commitment to national unity and youth development.
