Union Minister Credits Modi Government for Transforming Nagaland

Kohima: Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles, Pabitra Margherita, recently credited the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for driving significant development and stability in Nagaland over the past 12 years. Speaking at a press conference in Kohima, the minister affirmed that the central government remains dedicated to supporting the state’s industrial growth and economic potential.

Margherita emphasized that the region has undergone a major shift during this period. "For a state like Nagaland, the 12 years of leadership under Modi have brought unprecedented peace, connectivity, infrastructure, investment and dignity," he noted. To support this trajectory, the minister identified tourism, natural resources, and textile production as key sectors for future industrialization.

The minister highlighted several central welfare achievements, including the distribution of over 7.74 lakh Ayushman cards and 3.42 lakh rural tap water connections under the Jal Jeevan Mission. He also pointed to substantial financial growth, noting that tax devolution to Nagaland increased by nearly 1,000 percent between 2014 and 2026 compared to the previous decade. Additional funding includes Rs 7,403 crore provided through interest-free loans for capital expenditure since 2020.

During his visit, Margherita participated in a tree plantation drive at the Naga Heritage Village and toured a local handloom market complex. He reiterated that the Union Government is actively working to integrate Nagaland’s tribal heritage into national tourism policies. Looking forward, he stated that the UNNATI 2024 scheme, backed by an outlay of Rs 10,037 crore, would serve as a primary engine for job creation and industrial expansion across the North East.
