Shillong: National People’s Party leader Prestone Tynsong demanded voters in the Khasi-Jaintia Hills weigh the MDA government's record against what he called baseless attacks. Tynsong spoke Tuesday at a public rally in Rangthong, located 15 kilometers from Mawkyrwat. NPP candidate Dr. DRL Nonglait and party officials Hamletson Dohling and HM Shangpliang joined the campaign event.
Tynsong boasted of over Rs.1000 crore invested in regional road projects. He pointed to the Ranikor Civil Sub-Division, the Sngap Syiem College upgrade, and several key routes including the Ranikor-Baghmara two-lane road and the Weiloi-Ranikor project. Tynsong claimed the administration has completed or started major infrastructure across the district. The tender for the Weiloi-Mawkyrwat-Rangthong road is already out. Tynsong warned against online misinformation. "Therefore, Ranikor Constituency has benefitted not less than Rs.1000 crore only in major road infrastructure alone, including those that have been completed and those whom we are about to start," he said.
Dr. DRL Nonglait praised the government for initiatives like the Shillong Medical College, the Engineering College, and the Nursing College. He also backed the recent decision to make Khasi and Garo official languages. Nonglait argued this move empowers rural residents by allowing officials to correspond in local tongues. He encouraged students to master multiple languages while pushing for the recognition of Khasi within the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.
