Guwahati: Two youths from Digboi died on Monday evening following a high-speed vehicle crash on National Highway 38 in the Tinsukia district of Assam. The victims, identified as Shahid Hussain and Jyotishman Dutta, were traveling from Tinsukia toward Digboi when their vehicle veered off the road and collided with a tree near Bogapani.

Police arrived at the scene along with local residents to recover the bodies, which have since been sent for post-mortem examinations. While investigators are still determining the exact cause of the accident, initial findings point toward excessive speed. Sources noted that the vehicle's speedometer was found locked at approximately 120 kmph following the impact.

The incident has sparked local frustration regarding the safety of the Tingrai-Digboi corridor, which is currently undergoing construction. Residents claim that insufficient signage and hazardous road conditions, such as deep depressions near Ramnagar Namghar, frequently endanger motorists. Pradip Jaiswal, a local tax consultant who was recently injured near that area, stated, "a deep road depression caused his vehicle to lose balance."

Authorities have not yet established a direct link between the road conditions and Monday's crash. Police confirmed that a detailed investigation remains ongoing, and the victims' remains will be returned to their families once the necessary legal procedures are complete.
