Itanagar: Two cadres belonging to the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang (Ang Mai), or NSCN-K(AM), were killed during an operation conducted by Indian security forces in the Changlang District of Arunachal Pradesh. According to an official statement issued by the insurgent group, the incident took place on the evening of May 11 at approximately 8:30 PM near the Doimuk Nala area within the Miao Circle.

The individuals killed in the encounter have been identified as Lieutenant Colonel Umkong, a native of Nayang Village in the Tangshang region, and Sergeant Enu from Chithok Village in the Leinong region. The NSCN-K(AM) reported that the personnel were part of the Pangsau Pass Command and were engaged in local mobilization efforts intended to support the revival of the Stilwell International Highway, a project they claim would benefit the local population.

In the wake of the incident, the NSCN-K(AM) leadership expressed deep sorrow and condemned the actions of the 8th Assam Rifles, describing the confrontation as an irresponsible and provocative act. The organization emphasized that they have remained committed to maintaining peace and restraint, arguing that such use of force undermines ongoing efforts toward political dialogue and risks destabilizing the region.
