Guwahati: Police in the Sribhumi district of Assam detained two residents of Mizoram on Friday following the discovery of two gold biscuits in their possession. Authorities apprehended the duo, identified as Jehwa Lalmunpuja and Rebecca Lalrinomi, in the Ramkrishnanagar area while they were attempting to sell the gold clandestinely.

Officers from the Ramkrishnanagar Police Station seized the two gold biscuits, which weigh approximately 220 grams, along with a Royal Enfield motorcycle used by the pair. Following the arrest, the suspects and the confiscated items were transferred to the Customs Department to undergo further legal proceedings and a detailed investigation.

Investigators are currently verifying the authenticity of the gold to determine if the items are genuine. Officials suspect the detainees may have connections to a broader criminal syndicate involved in gold smuggling, though they have not released specific details about the network. The incident has caused significant concern among local residents as authorities continue to trace the origin and intended destination of the gold.
