Guwahati: Two minor girls from Diphu, Assam, were successfully rescued from a Delhi-bound train in the Bongaigaon district. The operation followed a swift response from local law enforcement after the students, enrolled in classes 10 and 12 at a government school, were reported missing by their families last week.
Police investigations indicate that the three arrested suspects lured the teenagers through Facebook by promising them lucrative employment opportunities in Delhi. The individuals in custody have been identified as 18-year-olds Ramen Kumar and Roshan Kumar, along with 19-year-old Rohit Chand. These suspects were reportedly staying at the home of a local contact in Diphu, whom they had also befriended through social media platforms.
The recovery process began after parents filed a formal FIR at the Diphu Police Station. Coordinating effectively, Diphu Police worked alongside their counterparts in Bongaigaon to intercept the train before it could leave the state. The rescued girls and the accused were transported back to Diphu on Monday night for further processing. Authorities are now conducting a thorough investigation to determine if the suspects are connected to a broader, organized human trafficking network.
